Shopping with Baby and Toddler the Binxy Way

When I first had Joseph, I didn’t leave the house for a few weeks.  I was a little nervous about getting out of the house with a two year old and a newborn.  Well… more scared than nervous.  My first trip alone with both of them was a quick run to CVS for detergent!  I had to test the waters first, before making a big launch to the grocery store.  I love babywearing, so that is how I manage to leave the house with both my babies.  But being only 5 feet tall, I struggle getting Madisyn in and out of the cart while wearing Joseph.  I still make it work though.

I was so excited when I got the Binxy Baby hammock in the mail.  I used it the same day!  Shopping was a breeze!

Freshly Picked Moccasins

Finally got a pair of Freshly Picked moccasins!  Actually, two pairs.  I first fell in love with the soft sole baby shoes when I was pregnant with Madisyn.  I remember seeing them on Instagram and thought they were the cutest thing ever.  The variety of colors and patters they are available in are just beautiful.  But for some reason once she was born, I completely forgot all about them!  I think I was just over the moon with her that the baby shoes just slipped my mind.

Just recently, I began the search for baby shoes.  I love everything about Freshly Picked moccasins.  They offer bold bright colors, unique patters, and neutrals.  So many options.  It was incredibly hard deciding which moccasins to choose.

I went with their Summer Bloom moccasins for Madisyn.  These are made with durable leather.  Major plus for my toddler who is always on the go.  They have a beautiful flower pattern and pink soles.  My daughter LOVES flowers.  Anytime she can pick flowers, she will.  She’s the sweetest girl in the world.  These are perfect for her.

For my little guy, I went with Velvet Crush.  Can’t go wrong with these velvety suede moccs.  They go well with just about anything he wears.  So soft, which I love!

Looking back now, I wish I had gotten Freshly Picked moccasins sooner.  When Madisyn was a baby, her little baby shoes were ALWAYS slipping off.  We called her our little Cinderella.  These have an elastic opening which help moccs stay on!

She LOVED them as soon as she put them on!

“Look mama, they’re so cute!”  she tells me.  She’s been wearing them everyday since she got them.

My happy baby looks so handsome with his moccasins.  That smile just melts my heart!

I love everything about Freshly Picked moccasins.  New patterns and colors are constantly being released.  The moccasins are gender neutral, with soft soles.  Making them perfect for both Madisyn and Joseph.  They have an elastic opening that makes it incredibly easy to put on and take off.  Madisyn is my little big girl, puts moccs on herself without a problem.  She even leaves them on!  If you knew her, you would know that keeping her shoes on is a major accomplishment.

I also love the story behind the making of Freshly Picked.  Susan started making baby moccasins after she struggled finding baby shoes for her little one.  A mother on a mission to design a comfy shoe for her child.  You can read more about her story here.

I am officially hooked on Freshly Picked moccasins!  I can’t wait to get more pairs for my little ones.

4moms MamaRoo Baby Swing

I remember when we brought our first born home.  My husband and I were so excited and felt incredibly blessed to have our little miracle home with us.  I felt overwhelmed but so much happiness at the same time.  Being a mother is such an amazing and joyous experience.  I took four months off from work after having her.  I used that time to observe each of her little features, constantly held her.  She’d fall asleep nursing in my arms and that’s where she’d stay.  We had a baby swing, but it wasn’t much help.  It was nothing like the mamaRoo baby swing.  She’d begin to cry as soon as we put her in.  At the time, housework was something that could wait.  So I would keep her in my arms.  I didn’t want to miss a single smile or cooing sound.  I wanted to cherish every moment possible.

When I became pregnant with my son I was a little nervous.  I was no longer going to be able to watch my newborn’s every move because now I had a toddler.  I was going to be a mother of two!  Our daughter was two and a half when we had our son.  The first days home with our newborn and toddler were a little hectic.  Now, as a stay at home mom, my daughter was use to our usual routine.  Things were completely different when I was a mother of one, chores were pushed aside so I could hold my baby as long as I wanted.  Today, I have meals to prepare and games to play with my toddler.

Which is why I am so thankful to have partnered up with 4moms.  The mamaRoo baby swing is my go to for my son’s comfort.  I can easily place him in it and know he is comfortable.  It is so easy to setup and unlike your typical swing, it doesn’t take up much space.  My husband was able set it up within minutes.  The first time our son used the mamaRoo, we were amazed with how quickly he was soothed.  He was a little fussy and when we placed him in it, he stopped crying within seconds.  My husband and I looked at each other with a sigh of relief.  We finally found something our son loved.

As modern and high tech as it is, our daughter helps turn it on.  She’ll set the movement and sound option.  It has five unique motion options that resemble the movements parents make to comfort baby.  The baby swing was created to mimic the same motions parents make to calm and soothe their baby.  When we place our son in it, he is nice and snug.  He stays in it peacefully.

The mamaRoo is also Bluetooth enabled.  You can control the motion, speed, and sound straight from your compatible smart device.   The seat reclines, you can have baby lie back or sit up.  I love the options because you can continue using the seat until baby reaches 25 lbs or can sit up on their own.  Also, the swing is incredibly light weight.  I usually ask my husband to bring the vacuum up and down the stairs!  By me saying it’s light weight, it IS light weight.  I can pick up and move the mamaRoo without a problem.  Major plus for me.

I recommend this swing to new moms and soon to be moms.  Click here to sign up for the 4moms email subscription, you’ll receive product updates and information.  To learn more about the unique technologies the baby swing uses to comfort your child, visit mamaRoo.  Who else is in love with this swing?  It makes life easier by comforting your baby when your arms need a little rest.

Toddler Bedtime Routine

When we had our first baby, I had to return to work when she was three months old.  It was incredibly hard for me, but we made it work.  We had to make sure she was getting enough rest since we had to get her up early and ready for childcare.  So, she’s had a bedtime routine since then.  For the most part, her bedtime routine is pretty simple and consistent.

  1. Pick up toys
  2. Bath
  3. Put on pajamas
  4. Brush teeth
  5. Read books
  6. Use the potty
  7. Time for sweet dreams

Of course, as she’s grown. we’ve altered it a little here and there.  But for the most part, it’s basic and remains predictable for her.  One thing I have learned is that toddlers love routine.  As our toddler got older she realized she had power.  Toddlers push and pull to see what they can get away with.  Maybe it’s an extra book at bedtime, using the potty again, a glass of water, or all of the above!  They will say everything and anything to avoid bedtime.  There were times when Madisyn, our toddler, would get out of bed to see what I was doing at night.  I was able to sense when she was going to get up, so I’d make sure I was always doing something incredibly boring.  She caught me washing dishes and cleaning a few times.  But once she saw that she wasn’t missing out on anything, she’d go right back to bed.  Eventually, she stopped getting curious and stayed in bed.

But bedtime became a little bit of a struggle again after bringing home baby brother.  She was just not having it, we would all dread bedtime.  We tried giving her extra tasks, to make her feel she had more responsibilities.  But picking out baby brother’s jammies wasn’t enough for her.  I was starting to run out of ideas to try.  I am so glad I came across  Whoo is Ready for Bed?, it has been so helpful.  The interactive book includes a stuffed owl, my daughter loves it.  The book prepares your toddler for bed and introduces an owl friend that stays with them through the night.

It comes with an erasable crayon your toddler can use to write in their book.

After three straight nights of going to bed peacefully, the owl brings your little one a special treat.  You can choose stickers, Play-Doh, coloring book, or anything else you may think of.

Since using the book, my daughter enjoys bedtime and looks forward to receiving her special treat from her owl friend every three nights.

If you are struggling with putting your toddler’s bedtime routine or nap time, get Whoo is Ready for Bed?.  Trust me, it is great.  Our toddlers will grow up before we know it and won’t want to be tucked into bed anymore.  Enjoy the little moments, like bedtime routines.  Make them enjoyable for everyone while it lasts.  Just remember how fast time flies, appreciate even the smallest moments in life.

Every child is different, this bedtime routine works great for us.  But it did take a lot of trial and error to see what worked best for her.  And for us!  Did you ever go through a period where you struggled putting your little one to bed?  What is your toddler/baby bedtime routine like?   I would love to hear how other mamas do it!

Visit Whoo is Ready for bed? and use promo code: sweetdreams to get 20% off your set now!  Promo expires September 1, 2016.

DSC05487-01I will be the first to admit, I am one paranoid mama.  Becoming a mother turned me into a constant worrier.  When my daughter was first-born, my husband and I set up the crib in our bedroom.  There I was, checking on her with every sound or moan she made.  Just watching her little chest go up and down to make sure she was breathing.   Although I wasn’t getting any sleep, I didn’t care.  I was a mom now, I wanted to make sure she was safe and look at her peaceful face while she slept.  Fast forward two and a half years later, I found myself doing the exact same thing with our son.

On top of  being up at all hours of the night for feedings and diaper duty, I was constantly getting up to check on our son.  My husband works overnight a lot of the time, so I was doing it all.  I didn’t realize I was starting to wear myself out.  Coffee was not supplying me with the energy I needed to keep up with my toddler in the daytime.  So when I heard about the Owlet monitor, I knew I had to get it.  The Owlet monitors your baby’s heart rate and oxygen level while they sleep.  It comes with a smart sock that goes on your baby’s left foot.  My only worry was that the sock was going to fall off, my son is a little squirmy.  But it fit nice and snug.  It includes three different sock sizes, so your baby doesn’t immediately outgrow it.  It uses pulse oximetry, which is the same technology hospitals use (the white thing they clip on your index finger), so you know it provides accurate information.  It gives me such a peace of mind to know it uses the same technology hospitals use. I don’t have to wonder if he is breathing at night or while he naps.  If any of the readings seem abnormal with your baby while they sleep, the device alarm will go off.  You will see a red blinking light on the base that is included as well.

The first night using the Owlet monitor was amazing.  Although I am up every two hours or so to nurse my son, I was able to easily go back to sleep after each feeding session.  I didn’t toss around in bed or check on him five times before going back to sleep.  Yes, I would check on him numerous times to make sure his little chest was going up and down.  I couldn’t help myself.  Since using the Owlet monitor, I have managed to get some rest and sleep peacefully through the night.

Whether you’re a first time parent or not, you will want to get the Owlet monitor when bringing home your newborn.  It will give you a sense of reassurance, knowing you have a second pair of eyes watching over your baby while they sleep.   As a parent, we want nothing more than the safety of our baby.  The monitor will provide you with the peace of mind you need.

“The Sock Electronics use pulse oximetry to gather your baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels. The electronics send your baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels to the Base Station. The Base Station then sends your baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels to your smartphone.”
